Title:

Simulated African Mud Cloth

Brief Description:

To compliment the third grade classroom study of Africa, students learned about and created Andinkra cloth symbols with printmaking techniques in the art room. To further extend the study students will use a Smithsonian Institute web page to create simulated African Mud Cloth.

Students will visit the Smithsonian web page, “Discovering Mud Cloth” and follow the prompts with teacher assistance to create a mud cloth design. Students will print out their final design.

Procedures:

Students will be directed in accessing the bookmarked web page.

 

Assessment:

Teacher observation throughout the lesson to ensure each student completes the task. Viewing the end product and discussion about the meaning of symbols chosen.
