Procedures:
|
On chart
paper, draw a series of boxes to create a storyboard. Present the children
with a situation, ie. “This story will be about two
children and a flying carpet.” Elicit
ideas about storyline, then call on children one at
a time to tell the story. As they talk, sketch (stick figures) in the
storyboard boxes, and make notes about the story underneath. Identity each
box by the teller’s initials. Guide the story to come to a conclusion by the
time the last child has his turn. Then give the children paper and markers to
illustrate their frame of the story.
After the lesson, scan the illustrations
into the computer, and cut and paste into powerpoint
slides. Write the text of the story to go with each illustration.
When finished, this slideshow can be uses
for many purposes, for example, helping the children replace boring verbs
with more precise, interesting ones, proofreading for capitals and periods,
discussing character, setting, problem, solution and events, and inventing
alternate endings.
|
|
|
Assessment:
|
Informal
assessment can be based on the child’s ability to move the story through the next
event, and visualizing his/her contribution.
