(time required to complete lesson, e.g. "two 45-minute sessions")

One classroom session of approximately ˝ hour. After the lesson, about an hour to create slide show.

Goals:
(curriculum and unit related; National or State standards)

Children will recognize three dimensional shapes and their properties.

Objectives:
(measurable specific activities conducted by students)

Children will search through the classroom for examples of three dimensional objects. They will identify properties of each shape.

Teacher Materials/Resources:
(specific materials the teacher must have to conduct the lesson, e.g. Romeo and Juliet (video), American flag, etc.)

None needed
or list necessary materials:
Computer with Powerpoint, digital camera

Student Materials/Resources:
(specific materials the students must have to complete the lesson, e.g. calculators, construction paper, finger paints, etc.)

None needed
or list necessary materials:
Three dimensional objects collected from the classroom

Procedures:

Following lessons on three dimensional objects, have the children search through the classroom for examples of these shapes. Take digital pictures of each object, then have the children list the various properties, ie. Six sides, eight corners, all the sides the same size square, etc.  After the lesson, upload the photos to Powerpoint, and type in the description of each shape. When finished, if desired, have the children record the name of each shape.

Assessment:

The child will be able to identify each shape, and state several of its properties.

Special Comments:

I will save this slide show to use with next year’s class. This lesson could be used with two dimensional shapes, or many other concrete math concepts.
