This Jeopardy game show can be altered and played
in various ways. Below are rules that
teachers may use to implement the learning experience:
1) Teacher will explain the rules to students (keep in mind to explain
that this Jeopardy is different in that the student is given the question and
needs to provide the answer)
2) Teacher will assign one student volunteer to mark off on the game
board transparency which questions have already been answered
3) The teacher will open the “NYS Math Review Game Show,” go to the View
menu and select “Slide Show”
4) Wait for all information to come up on slide one and then click
anywhere on the screen to move to slide two
5) Teacher will have divided the class into three equal teams, each team
will choose a team name
6) On slide two, the teacher enters the names of each team under the word
contestant
7) Determine which team will go first, second and third
8) Create an order in which students will answer questions for each team
9) Click to move to the board game screen, have students select a
category and amount, click on the appropriate box to see the question, when the
student has given his answer click anywhere on the screen to show the correct
answer
*I suggest that when the question comes up,
ALL students answer the question on their scrap paper independently and
quietly in order to keep all students engaged and practicing the math
concepts. You can have the class check
their answers with the correct one after the student has given his/her
answer. The student who chose the category
and is answering the question for his/her team should explain how he/she got
the answer to the class in order to endure understanding for all students.*
10) Click anywhere on the correct question
screen to return to the board screen.
You may enter the “winnings” in the box for the successful contestant
and keep track of scores here. Or you
may click on the Scores box on the correct question screen and return to
Slide 2 and enter scores there.
11) After a student has answered a
question, have the student volunteer mark that one off on the overhead to
show that no one else can answer that question
12) Continue these steps until all
questions have been answered and then move on to “Final Jeopardy”
13) In “Final Jeopardy” you can have teams work together to figure out how
much they want to wager and to determine the answer
14) The team with the most points at the end is the “winner.” However, remind students that they are all
winners because they have all been learning!
