(time required to complete lesson, e.g. "two 45-minute sessions")

This lesson took one session of about 1 hour.

Goals:
(curriculum and unit related; National or State standards)

To compare prices and draw conclusions about where it is cheaper to shop.

Objectives:
(measurable specific activities conducted by students)

Students gathered data about prices of produce at the Public Market.  They also gathered data about prices of produce at a local grocery store.  They then compared the prices and input that into an Excel spreadsheet.  The spread sheet allowed them to make bar graphs to show their comparisons.   After the students printed the graphs they were able to write comparison statements about where it is better to shop.

Assessment:

I was able to assess the student’s learning by looking at the graphs they created and reading the comparative statements they made.  It was amazing the conclusions the children made about how much cheaper it is to shop at the public market.  They were also able to make conclusions about how important it is to support our local economy and shop at the public market.
