Procedures:
Day 1 Introduce topic with a KWL chart on whales Students partner read Ibis A True Whale Story Day 2 to 4 Chart information learned about whales from the story Ibis. Students pick a specific whale to research [students may work in small groups or pairs] Begin to read various books and text on whales. Students keep a jouranl of what they have learned about whales. [see internet resources for a list of whale web sites that have information and pictures about whales]. Day 5 Students begin to prepare presentation. They may use Kid Pic to make a slide show, make a poster, write a report or group story. They may locate pictures from the internet to use. They will include information on what the whale looks like, what it eats, where it lives, is it baleen or toothed, and interesting facts they have found. Day 7 Students present information on whale to the class
