This 1865 photo at the corner of West Main and State Streets shows the starting construction of the Powers Building.

The Building was originally built as a five story structure. This Photo shows a sixth story which was added by Daniel Powers to maintain right of the tallest building in the city.

As time went on a 7th and 8th floor were added along with the tower in order for Daniel Powers to keep his building the tallest.

Today the building looks almost the same as it did at the turn of the century.
