Opportunities For SOAR Fund Expenditures
2008-2009

The following is a list of possible activities/topics that would be appropriate for the use of building SOAR Funds.   Please take the time to review the list and discuss possibilities with your staff.

Remember, although release time can be used for SOAR activities, prior approval must be received from your building administrator.   See the appropriate form in your Policy Board binder, or call the TLC office with questions.

Finally, all SOAR fund expenditures must be approved and passed through the TLC office, prior to their use.

ELA

K-6     Reader's & Writer's Workshop (Lesson development)
           Word Study lesson development
           Conferencing Techniques and tools
           Development of Learning Experiences related to embedded prompts

7-12   Lesson development to increase critical thinking, synthesis and analysis of literature
           Techniques to engage in analysis of student work
           Techniques to develop and analyze rubrics

Math

K-12   Strategies for Differentiation
K-5     Lessons developed to explore literature connections in Math
6-8     Supporting students' writing in math
           Implementing constructivist pedagogy (Launch, Explore, Summarize)

Social Studies

K-12   Strategies for Differentiation
           Supporting student research and use of Primary Sources
           Designing standards based units/lessons to support reading, writing and thinking
           Increase students' self assessment and independence using rubrics and models

Science

K-12    Design lessons and experiments to facilitate student-led inquiry
9-12    Supporting reading, writing and thinking in the science classroom

Music

K-12    Designing lessons and units to support standards-based instruction

Art

K-12   Integrate technology as a way to create and respond to works of art
           Analysis and evaluation of art using rubrics and models

Phys Ed

K-12    Designing learning experiences to support standards based instruction

Application for use of SOAR Funds

  1. Fill out the form on the computer.
  2. Tab between the fields. If you run out of room, continue in another document.
  3. Print completed document(s), check the appropriate box at the bottom and mail or fax completed forms, including appropriate signatures, to the TLC.
