The West Irondequoit Teaching Learning Center has been operated by the West Irondequoit School District since 1985 under a grant from the New York State legislature. It is one of over 127 Teacher and Computer Resource Centers in the state. The TLC is directed by a policy board composed of teachers from both the public and non-public schools, leadership staff, and representatives from the Board of Education, higher education, the business community, and parents. Teachers must comprise the majority of the board's members. The ultimate goal of the Policy Board and the Teaching Learning Center is to promote the highest quality of instruction for all students in the West Irondequoit community through high quality professional development for faculty and staff. The TLC designs course offerings based on both formal and informal needs assessments of the affiliated staff, thus allowing teachers to become a major force in their own professional development. Priority is given to programs which support national and state standards, district initiatives, and school base planning team goals. Courses are offered at the awareness, comprehension, and implementation levels in areas including: |
