West Irondequoit Central School District

                            Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

West Irondequoit's Foreign Language Program presently consists of five languages (French, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish) offered from the seventh grade through Level V/AP.  The LOTE Outcomes and Guiding Principles were identified and are incorporated with National Standards and local initiatives.  The program reflects the district's Peak Performance Plan and is articulated with the New York State Syllabus for Foreign Languages.

The instructional levels of foreign language programs of New York State are identified as checkpoints, A, B, and C, based on increasing levels of language proficiency.  Local districts are free to design their programs as they choose, within this structure.  In West Irondequoit, our grade level equivalents for these checkpoints are as follows:

Checkpoint  Exam Level
A Proficiency (Grade 7, 8) Grade 7 - Level I
B Regents (Grade 9, 10) Levels II and III
C AP (Grade 11, 12) Levels IV, V and AP
