Community Education Courses
Participate in the popular Community Education Program. Over 150 courses are offered each year ranging from fitness with child care to computers and crafts. Course catalogues are mailed to all residents in January and August. The course catalogue is also available on the district’s Web site at www.westirondequoit.org.
There are also a number of courses available on-line that can be taken on your computer. Join your neighbors and friends for enjoyable learning experiences. Register for Community Ed classes on-line, over the phone by calling 336-3014, or drop off your registration with the receptionist at the Administration Building / 321 List Ave.
Irondequoit High School Classes
Learn a foreign language or brush up on your business skills. Adults can take daytime courses at Irondequoit High School free of charge if there is room in the class. Call the IHS Counseling Center at 336-2921.
Irondequoit High School Drama Department
Share your interest in theater by offering your skills or experience to help with drama department productions. Call 336-2958.
Recreation
Swim at noontime three times each week in the pool at Irondequoit High School. Call 336-3014. A number of other recreational activities are offered in district schools through the Town of Irondequoit and a summer recreation program is offered by the town on various school grounds. Call 336-6070.
Cable 12 TV
Tune in to Irondequoit TV Cable 12 for the community calendar and learn what’s going on in our town and the surrounding area. Call 336-3130. School district programs are aired as follows:

WIRQ-FM (104.7) Radio is operated by Irondequoit High School students. Call 336-3065.
Helmer Nature Center
Take a hike, go bird watching, use the extensive nature library, take part in special community events such as the Fall Harvest Festival or the Spring Maple Sugar Festival. The Helmer Nature Center is located at 154 Pinegrove Avenue. Call 336-3035. Check Cable 12, the district Web site and the Irondequoit Post for activities.
Volunteer Opportunities
Lend a hand in school classrooms, read with a young child on a one-on-one basis or help out for a special event. Make colorful teaching aids for district classrooms at the Materials Management Group (MMG) or participate in the many opportunities at the Helmer Nature Center. Call 336-3067.
After School Child Care
After-school child care is operated by the Maplewood YMCA at three district schools. Call 647-3600.
Senior Citizen Opportunities
Take advantage of the district’s gold card, which offers a reduced rate to West Irondequoit residents for Community Education courses. Attend school concerts, plays, athletic functions and special senior citizens’ events. Call 342-5500.
Board of Education
The community is invited to attend all meetings and study sessions. The Board usually meets the first and third Thursday of each month beginning at 7:00pm. Check the Web site to verify location and to review the agenda prior to each meeting or call 342-5500.
West Irondequoit Alumni Association
Join local alumni in keeping the West Irondequoit spirit alive through information sharing and reunion planning. Call 336-3067.
